Humans have not evolved from monkeys. Humans are more closely associated with modern apes than monkeys, but we have not evolved from apes either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes such as gorillas and chimpanzees. Researchers say chimpanzees need to be classified in the same genus as humans.
