The artificial heart works by pumping deoxygenated blood from the body to the lungs. The device then pumps oxygenated blood into the body. How does it work? TAH replaces the lower ventricle of the heart, called the ventricle. The tube connects the TAH to an extracorporeal power source. TAH then pumps blood from the major arteries of the heart to the lungs and the rest of the body.
