Guinea pigs usually drink about 100 mL / kg (3.3 ounces / 2.2 lbs) of water daily, as quoted in the book "Clinical Medicine and Surgery of Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents". This amount may increase or decrease slightly due to ambient temperature and humidity, activity levels, or illness.



How do I know if a guinea pig is drinking enough water?

If you receive a liquid bag, open the valve on the liquid line and squeeze the bag. If the fluid is easy to flow, you are successful. If hydration is difficult or the guinea pig feels uncomfortable, the needle may not be in the right place and should be advanced slowly or removed and retried.
