Ask Q

The three ways reptiles gain or lose heat in their surroundings are by conduction, convection, and radiation.

How do you adjust the temperature of the reptile aquarium?

A heat lamp, ceramic heating element, or radiant heating panel can be used to provide auxiliary heating from above. Use a heating pad or heat tape to take care of seeds that prefer ventral heat. Heat panels, tapes and pads should be used with regulators such as rheostats and thermostats.

What is the method used to regulate body temperature?

When exposed to hot conditions, sweating is one of the main methods used to control body temperature. Sweat evaporates, helping to cool the skin. It also dilates the blood vessels that nourish the skin, allowing warm blood to flow to the surface of the skin. This helps remove heat from the core of the body.
