The pygmy shrews have a pointed face with small eyes, very small ears, and a long nose. The top is dark brown and the bottom is gray or silver. It is smaller than the common shrews and its tail is two-thirds the length of its body (the tail of the common shrews is half the length of their body). It also has a smaller, narrower nose.
