As I grow older, I take less naps and prefer to rest in an upright position rather than lying down. Adult horses rest while standing in the Lord, but need to lie down to get the required REM sleep.
Is it bad to sleep on your side?
It is safe and perfectly normal for the horse to lie down. However, if the horse is lying down for a long time, it is actually quite dangerous! Horses are very large animals, so lying down for long periods of time can limit blood flow to important organs and limbs.
