How do you estimate the size of a pig?

Animal Expert
Ask Q

The most accurate way to weigh a pig is to use a professional pig weight. Porky Pig has a 50-inch circumference around the heart and a 40-inch length. Heart girth squared (50 x 50) = 2500 = Girth girth result. Multiply the girth result (2500) by the length (40) and divide by 400 = 250 pounds.

What is the average pig size?

A typical domestic pig has a total height of 20 "-38" (51-97 cm) and a body length of 35 "-71" (.9-1.8 m). The average domestic pig weighs 300-700 pounds. At (140-300 kg), the normal lifespan on a farm is 6-10 years, up to 15-20 years if kept as a pet.

How accurate is the weight measurement of pigs?

The correlation between pig body weight and heart circumference is 0.93, indicating that heart circumference is a very good predictor of pig body weight. Heart girth accurately predicted 50% of pigs weighing less than 9 pounds and 80% of pigs weighing less than 16 pounds. 2017
