What is the structure of asconoid sponges?

Animal Expert
Ask Q

Asconoid sponge is the simplest type of tissue. Small, tubular water enters the sponge through the pores of the dermis and flows into the atrium. The choanocyte flagella generate an electric current to expel it through a single oscram. Note that water enters the sponge through a modified cell known as polosite.

What is asconoid sponge?

The simplest body structure of a sponge is in the form of a tube or vase known as an "asconoid", which severely limits the size of the animal. The structure of the body is characterized by a stem-like sponge surrounded by a single layer of choanocytes.

What is the structure of sponge called?

The skeleton of the sponge is composed of a hard rod-shaped protrusion called a spicule and a protein called collagen. Sponge: As explained in Properties and Classification, the sponge class is based on the composition of the spicules. Sponge spicules made of calcium carbonate or silica are secreted by cells called sclerating cells. 2015

What does the Asconoid Sponge look like?

The asconoid sponge is tubular and the central axis is called the sponge coil. When you hit the bristles of the choanocytes, water is pushed into the sponge coil through the pores on the body wall. Choanocytes line the sponge coil and filter nutrients from the water. Siconoid sponges are similar to asconoids.

What is the shape of the syconoid sponge?

Scypha, also known as sycon, is a genus of Calcarea class sponges (Calcareous spongeae) and is characterized by a finger-like body known as a syconoid-type structure.
