Which sponge body plan is the most complex?

Animal Expert
Ask Q

Leuconoid sponges are the most complex in design in that not all chambers are flagellates. Water flowing in through the inflowing canal is selectively pumped through a chamber that is discharged through one of a series of Oscula. Leuconoid sponges are great for increasing the size of your sponge.

How complex is the sponge?

The sponge has cell-level organization. That is, cells are specialized so that different cells perform different functions, but similar cells are not organized into tissues, and the body is a kind of loose aggregate of different types of cells.

Which sponge body plan is the most efficient?

The leuconoid body shape is the most advanced body shape of the sponge and is the largest sponge's most efficient circulation system for supplying oxygen and nutrients.

What is the least complex sponge body shape?

There are three types of sponge body foam: Ascon, Psycon, and Leukon. The Ascon sponge is the simplest and least common sponge body. These sponges have multiple mouths, where water enters the sponge and where water exits the sponge in only one place.

Is the sponge simple or complex?

Corals are complex multicellular organisms. A sponge is a very simple creature with no tissue. All corals need salt water to survive. Most sponges are found in the sea, but many species are also found in freshwater and estuaries.
